Meet the Pastor
Rev. Dr. Christopher J. Waters serves as the Senior Pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. A native of Calhoun, Georgia, he began his preaching ministry at the early age of 14. A graduate of Morehouse College, this proud “Morehouse Man” earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. His theological education continued at the Morehouse School of Religion, where he received his Master of Divinity. Rev. Waters also holds a Doctor of Ministry with a concentration in Church Revitalization from Liberty University.
With over 19 years of pastoral leadership experience, Pastor Waters has a passion for revitalizing churches and fostering spiritual renewal through prayer, worship, and discipleship. Under his leadership, Greenforest Community Baptist Church has seen significant growth in both its spiritual and community impact. His focus on church revitalization has re-energized the congregation’s commitment to spiritual development and outreach.
Rev. Waters is deeply committed to community engagement and social justice. He serves on the Board for the Dekalb County Juvenile Justice Council and is a strong advocate for addressing issues such as gang violence, youth homelessness, and education reform. He has led numerous initiatives, rallies, and community events aimed at making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
Nationally, Dr. Waters is recognized for his leadership within the Southern Baptist Convention, where he serves as a national officer for the National African American Fellowship Board. He is also a Conference Speaker for Lifeway’s Black Church Week at Ridgecrest Conference Center and regularly shares his insights on church leadership and growth.
Beyond his ministry, Rev. Waters is the founder of the Young Black Preachers Fellowship, an online community of over 6,000 African American clergy across the United States. His influence extends into media as the former co-host of the “Keeping it Real” radio show and as a contributing writer to various sermon-sharing platforms.
A passionate advocate for health and wellness, Rev. Waters enjoys organic gardening, swimming, and traveling with his family. He is married to Angel Faith Waters, his college sweetheart, and they are proud parents of their son, Christian Jeremiah Waters.
